Charlotte Lynggaard´s unique jewellery series 'My Friend' has now topped 2 million DKK in contributions for water projects in West Africa and has so far resulted in the establishment and renovation of 53 wells, providing clean drinking water to many communities and more than 50,000 people in the small West African country of Togo, where BØRNEFONDEN, member of Child Fund International works

Charlotte Lynggaard is not only a jewellery designer.
She is also concerned with the state of the world and the consequences of global warming. Therefore she designed "My Friend" jewellery as a symbol token of care - the little penguin and the tiny fish.

Among the first victims of global warming are the penguins. This was Charlotte Lynggaard´s first inspiration for the "My Friend" design and symbol. The chubby little penguin is followed by a funny little fish, another symbol of water

The first victims of global warming are also millions of people who lack clean drinking water because of irregular rainy seasons and desertification.
This was the inspiration for the collaboration between
Ole Lynggaard A / S and BØRNEFONDEN (member of
Child Fund International) and the funding of water projects
in West Africa.
By supporting the water projects in Africa, Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen hopes to inspire others to support people in need and to make the decision to act.

I 2008
The year when Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen started the sales of My Friend. The jewellery sold so well that that we could send 858,996 DKK to Børnefonden (member of Child Fund Int´l) for water well projects in Midezon, Togo. 7 wells were built and approx. 7,000 residents in seven villages in Togo, received access to clean and safe water.
In 2009
Many families in Togo's villages are heavily dependent on their crops with the farmers trying to cover the irrigation of their crops by digging homemade wells. These wells are often in such a poor condition that after a while, they collapse. Each year the farmers see the return on their crops dwindle, rainfall in the area is very volatile and with many dry periods. At Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen, we took part in a large and comprehensive project, renovating and reopening 21 wells in the region Bandjeli, Togo. The project included the training of maintenance teams for each well, in order to provide both quality water and to sustain the operation of the wells. In 2009, with the help of My Friend fans, we managed to reopen 13 wells with 13 maintenance teams - water for approx. 13,000 people
In 2010
We continued with the project from 2009 in Tog and reopened the last 8 wells in the first half of the year. In the remainder of 2010, we committed ourselves to a new project the reopening of an additional 10 wells with maintenance teams - water to a total of 18,000 people!!
I 2011
The funding for an additional 12 water wells in the area Malnere, Togo has been completed and construction of them is expected to begin at the end of the year. This means clean water for a further approx. 12,000 people. The funding for the project of 6 more wells to be renovated in the area Bandali, Togo started end of 2011.
